25-year-old convicted sex offender arrested on suspicion of sexual battery in Garden Grove – Orange County Register


A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, December 28, on suspicion of sexual assault following an assault in Garden Grove, police said.

Garden Grove police said Jerry Mathilde of Garden Grove was accused of sexually assaulting a person at 11200 Magnolia Street around 9 a.m. Wednesday. According to police, Mathilde approached the victim from behind and fled, only to be chased and confronted by the victim.

The age of the victim was not immediately known. It was also not immediately clear whether Mathilde and the victim knew each other.

Mathilde, a registered sex offender, was on probation with a GPS strapped to her ankle when she was arrested in Huntington Beach, police said.

Mathilde was convicted in 2022 of obscene exposure and child harassment or sexual abuse, according to the Megan’s Row, Calif. database, a public sex offender registry.

Mathilde was in custody at the Orange County Jail as of Wednesday evening, according to prison records.
