The New York Rangers step into a winning matchup against the Montreal Canadiens, who sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
Forward Julien Gauthier has already been ruled out and Chris Crider is questionable. That means Alexis Lafrenière should stay at the forefront, and newcomer Jake Leticine will make her Broadway debut.
“It’s a great opportunity to prove ourselves again,” Leshishin said on Saturday. “I’m just trying to bring energy to this team. Wherever they throw me and bring good competition to this team, be a good two-way center or winger.”
Leshishin, 23, was waived by the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. He has scored no goals in 22 games this season.
Gerald Gallant has confirmed that Johnny Brodzinski will be shifted to the wing to play center of the fourth line.

Ailing New York Rangers face Habs
Injuries aside, stomach bugs are running through the team, causing Artemi Panarin, Vitali Kravtsov and Ryan Lindgren to miss practice.
“They will be there,” Gallant said. “They’ve all been playing all this week and a half for him. Hopefully they don’t get to the point where they can’t.”
New York scored a dramatic and emotional come-from-behind victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday. K’Andre Miller hit the buzzer beater to force the game into overtime and Adam Fox won.
The latest win improved the Blueshirts’ January record to 5-0-1. They also have a 13-2-2 record in their last 17 games, moving him to 3rd place in the Metro division, 6 points behind the No. 1 Carolina Hurricanes.
Defense is key in the Rangers’ turnaround, especially scoring from the blue line. Fox leads the team’s defense with 44 points in his 43 games, and so far he’s scored nine in January. Miller is on his six-game scoring streak with three goals and four assists.
“We’re the type of team that keeps pushing regardless of time or score,” explained Miller. “I will fight until the final buzzer sounds.”
Igor Shesterkin is a likely starter for the Rangers to play the first set in a row. They are scheduled to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.
Shesterkin is 2-0-0 against Montreal with a 1.51 GAA. and a .954 save rate. If Gallant chooses Jaroslav Halak, he’s 7-4-0 with his 2.32 GAA and .912 save percentage.
New York is on a seven-game point winning streak (5-0-2).
don’t rake coles
The Habs put up a decent game on Friday, losing 2-1 to the New York Islanders. Unfortunately for them, they are currently 0-6-1 in their last seven road games and 2-8-0 overall in their last 19 games.
One player the Rangers will keep an eye on is young Cole Corfield. Montreal fans have a big push to bring him to the All-Star Game via online voting, and they have solid grounds to send the 22-year-old to Florida.
This season he has scored 25 goals and 34 points in 43 appearances for Habs.
