CHARLOTTEVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Piedmont Botanical Gardens called on communities to spread mulch, remove invasive plants and tend to their gardens in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
“This will be a transformative place, not just for Charlottesville, but for everyone who visits,” said Consi Palmer, president of the Botanical Gardens.
In the future, the garden will feature a canopy tree walk with bird and sky viewing platforms.
“When you spiral up to the top, you can see the birds in the trees and the best of everything. It’s a slide for adults that you can slide down,” said Carlton Carroll, Garden Guardian.
Garden says the effort has benefited not only the community, but also the wildlife population.
“Our bird populations are growing and diversifying. We’re seeing results in the streams running through our gardens, more aquatic life, more frogs, toads and turtles.
