GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incident in the week ending December 20th.
December 14th
- Officers investigated reports of jewelry missing from homes during periods when workers were inside.
- Firefighters and police set off a fire alarm in the residence and determined that construction debris was the cause.
- Via a computer, the victim was contacted by what appeared to be his online financial company that his account had been compromised. The victim called the listed number and followed his instructions to grant the caller access to his computer. Later, when it was discovered that all his financial accounts had been deleted, it was determined to be a fraud.
- A Clinch Avenue truck driver has been charged with driving in a non-commercial vehicle zone and having his license suspended.
December 15th

- Victims’ identities were stolen and used to open unauthorized credit card accounts.
- Police are investigating signs posted illegally on telephone poles in villages.
- Cops are investigating reports of illegal transactions against victims’ bank accounts.
- The Clinton Road driver was charged with driving without a license and speeding.
- Firefighters and police set off fire alarms at the residence and determined that the cause was a water leak.
December 16th
- A commuter bag was reportedly stolen on a train somewhere between Pennsylvania Station and Nassau Boulevard Station.
- Police investigated reports of fraudulent charges to victims’ credit card accounts.
- A Meadow Street driver has been charged with driving with a stop license and passing a stop sign.
- Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Brompton Road.
- Officers seized a vehicle from Parking Lot 7N. Considered a mockery by Garden City Court for unpaid tickets.
December 17th

- Officers arrested drivers on Clinton Road and Chestnut Street for DWI, passing red lights, and using unsafe lanes.
- Old Country Road driver arrested for 2nd degree aggravated unlicensed driving (8 suspensions), improper license plate and unregistered vehicle.
- The victim’s notebook was stolen during a party at a restaurant on Franklin Avenue.
- Firefighters and police set off fire alarms in the home and determined the cause was burnt plastic utensils.
- There was a mobile phone lost or stolen in the car of the dispatch application delivery service.
- The Stewart Avenue and Clinton Road drivers were charged with speeding, license suspension and suspension of registration.
December 18th
- Firefighters and police were called to the residence due to the smell of natural gas. Firefighters determined that a boiler leak was to blame. They made the area safe until it was rehabilitated.
- Firefighters and police responded to reports of natural gas odors on Kingsbury Road. The firefighter’s meter reading was negative. The smell was clearly determined to be a sewage problem. The water department was notified to investigate.
- Firefighters and police responded to the residence about smoke conditions and determined what caused the chimney debris to be discarded. Firefighters made the area safe.
- The Clinton Road driver was charged with a license suspension and speeding.
December 19th
- Officers investigated multiple reports of fraudulent transactions against victims’ Apple Play accounts.
- A victim’s debit card was intercepted in the mail and used to make fraudulent withdrawals from a Seventh Avenue ATM.
- The vehicle reportedly left the scene after hitting and damaging an unoccupied vehicle on St. James Street South.
- At Roxbury Road, it was discovered that a screw had been inserted into the sidewall of the vehicle’s tire.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue near St. Paul’s Field has been charged with speeding and a license suspension.
- A Mayfair Avenue 1st Avenue driver has been charged with driving with a suspended license.
December 20th
- Items were reported stolen from a car parked in the driveway on Harvard Street.
- The 7th Avenue store reported that two people used fraudulent credit card information to make purchases.
- A Washington Avenue driver has been charged with having his license suspended and driving an unregistered vehicle.
- A Stewart Avenue driver has been charged with driving with a suspended license and going through a red light.
- Firefighters and police responded to the carbon monoxide alarm at the residence and determined the cause was vehicle exhaust. Firefighters ventilated the house.
- A truck crashed into an overpass in Cherry Valley. The driver was charged with ignoring a permit sign on the bridge.
