About 35 people attended the 15th annual Winterfest celebrations held at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary (GCBS) on Saturday, January 14th.
Chairman of the Board, John W. Cronin, led an annual ceremony in which attendees light green candles, symbolizing a new spring that will surely follow winter. The ‘Great Telling’ as this seasonal ritual is called is to remind everyone that ‘all winter must end’.
Winter, to which it refers, is not limited to chronologically December 21st to March 21st, but marks a tough time in our lives. Winter for health problems, financial problems, etc. The world’s great religions remind us that even the “winter” of death itself yields to the spring of life that follows. Professional folk songs were provided by guitarist and singer Aaron Shion.
Cronin has awarded many members of the GCBS Volunteer Corps. From the end of April 2022 he was able to remain open all weekends (Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm) until the end of September. [email protected].
Cronin has announced that its board of directors has initiated a development committee to raise funds and obtain grants so that GCBS can maintain a stable financial base.
Nassau County Councilman Laura Schaefer presented the certificate to the recipient and Dr. Shana Caro, Professor of Biology at Adelphi University. Dr. Caro and Dr. Cronin announced a partnership with Adelphi and GCBS to introduce an environmental education program.
