Garden City, South Carolina (WBTW) — As the sun sets, the lights come on at Don Weaver’s home.
For the past two years, Weaver has brought a veritable winter wonderland to life in his Garden City home. He decorates homes and gardens with his over 215,000 lights programmed with his songs for 27 Christmases.
Transforming his home into a Christmas lover’s dream is no easy task. It takes several people, an 80ft lift and over a month to hang the lights and set up the display. Weaver said the community loves coming to see the displays and they love seeing their smiles.
“[We see] We average 200 to 300 people a night,” says Weaver. “I’m here every night from 6pm to 10pm to walk around with them and let them walk the trails.”
A Weaver display isn’t meant to be enjoyed through a car window. He encourages people to park their cars, get out and enjoy the scenery up close.
“You can park across from Garden City Baptist Church,” Weaver said. “I worked things out with the pastor there, and they were very nice about it.”
Since last year, Weaver has only stepped up his game. He’s added thousands more lights and six new displays. He’s already thinking about next year when he will play the game again.
“Next year will be even better with the new garage completed and another 35,000 lights,” Weaver said.
He hopes that people will use his home as an opportunity to bask in the glow of Christmas lights with their loved ones.
Weaver’s Christmas Light Display is located at 534 Pine Avenue in Garden City.
