Garden City Swears In New Police Officer

GARDEN CITY, NY — On December 15, Mayor Cosmo Veneziale took the oath of office as the newest officer to join Garden City Police Department member Rodolfo Sulmonte, currently assigned to the Nassau County Police Academy.

Sulmonte was born in Queens and raised in Levittown. He attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated from Island He Tree High School in 2010.

After high school, he played professional hockey in the Ontario Hockey League and attended the Islanders Rookie Camp in 2010. Professionally he spent five years in hockey before graduating from Nassau where he attended community college. While there, he also started coaching Tier 1 U16 and U18 Hockey for the PAL Junior Islanders. This position he held for six years while pursuing a career in law enforcement.

“The qualities Rodolfo has achieved while playing professional hockey and teaching young children should serve him well in his work in community-oriented police departments such as the Garden City Police Department,” said Commissioner Kenneth Jackson.
