Garden City To Decide Fate Of Country Life Press LIRR Building

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Village of Garden City will open comments from the public on the Country Life Press Station Building proposal at a meeting on Thursday.

The MTA plans to demolish the building and replace it with a new plaza and shelter as part of a capital program. This may include plantings installed by the MTA and maintained by the village.

According to Mura, the work includes meeting ADA compliance, repairing structural features of the platform and repairing bike racks. The MTA bears all costs of the project.

The MTA plans to go ahead with the project, but has given villagers until December 15 to express their concerns or withdraw. Village officials said some residents suggested that the village should not accept the MTA’s offer and pay the full cost of repairing and maintaining the building.

The Village Board will discuss the proposal at a meeting at the Village Hall on December 15th at 7:30 pm. Anyone who wants to comment on the proposal can attend and give their opinion.
