Upcoming Programs at Berkshire Botanic Gardens
STOCKBRIDGE – Berkshire Botanic Gardens presents the following upcoming programs. ‘Landscape Design II’ for 10 weeks on Thursdays from 9th February to 13th April from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Learn essential skills in designing a functional garden that respects the site and meets the needs of the client. Led by Chuck Schnell and Walter Cudnohufsky, this course covers a variety of topics or techniques that focus on the importance of knowing your client and site as the foundation for effective and engaging design. Essential and easy-to-grasp design principles are introduced throughout the course, along with a form-finding approach to garden design. You’ll learn the vocabulary you need to identify a property’s potential and problems, as well as the right questions to ask the client what they want while avoiding common design mistakes. Learn how to make thoughtful and sustainable choices for the elements and materials commonly used in residential-scale gardens. Students complete an instructor-provided project that progresses from a creative concept to a completed design plan, including site evaluation drawings, concept sketches, and schematics. Each class includes instruction and assessment of ongoing projects. Group discussions and exercises put theory into action. Students will give a formal presentation in their final class, with the primary goal of telling the coherent design story and process leading to the proposed solution. $400 for members, $450 for non-members. Need help paying for this class? Berkshire Botanical Gardens can help. For more information, visit the Berkshire Botanical Gardens webpage.
