‘Glow garden’ at Girgaon Chowpatty soon

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning a laser show at the water curtain at Lok Manya Tilak Garden, Girgaon Chowpatty.

According to senior administrators, this is part of a larger plan to develop a “grow garden” on the property. The garden develops by placing glowing objects such as birds, flowers and animals to illuminate tall trees. “Visitors to the gardens will enjoy the theme and it will be visible from Girgaon Chowpatty,” said a senior administrator.

The tender to install a laser show on the water curtain was made by BMC in December 2022, while work on the grow garden will begin soon. The installation cost of the laser show with maintenance he has estimated at Rs 2.5 crore and the project is carried out by his D Ward.

The laser show does not operate year-round. It operates five to eight times a month, including celebrations such as Ganesha, Navratri, Diwali, Christmas, Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti, city officials said. “The laser show will display theme-based images on days like that,” the official added.

The development is part of Prime Minister Eknas Shinde’s Mumbai beautification project announced in August 2022 with a total cost of Rs 170 crore. As part of this project, all city boroughs are tasked with selecting gardens, squares and underpass spaces for beautification. Overpasses, public walls, medians, and traffic island lampposts are illuminated with themed lighting.
