The Genesee Region USBC Bowling Week of the Week saw several near misses, including an 813 series by Bergen’s Harris Bassmire and 300 games by Batavia’s James Townsend and the aforementioned 299 games by Townsend. .
Basmire, a 58-year-old right-hander and longtime chef of the Viking Valhalla and Rose Garden Bowls, scored his second U.S. Bowling Congress-sanctioned 800 series at the Owl League at his hometown center on Thursday. .
Basmire bowled in lanes 7-8, spinning 278, 268 and 267. Scored a strike in his last six pitches, breaking the 800 mark. He scored a front eight strikes in the first game and his last six in game two, before in the third game he scored 11 strikes for a total of 31 strikes.
This is his second USBC certified 800 series. His first ride was in his 811 at the 2003 Rose Garden Bowl.
— Townsend, a high-sliding right-hander who turns 25 on Friday, finished 300 and 253 in 768 series in the County Line Friday Trios League at Mancuso Bowling Center — Tuesday Coed in 299 games and 791 series League of Mancuso after three nights.
He now has four USBC-certified perfect games.
Also in the league on Tuesday, Batavia’s Steve Khulna opened with 290 games to advance to the 747 series.
— At Medina Lanes, Medina’s Hayden Allis registered 278 games and 796 series in Wednesday’s Community League. His 7-10 split on his second ball in the final frame of his third game cost him the 800 series. He also rolled the 725 series to lead the Sunday Rolloffs League.
