Huron-Clinton Metroparks to sponsor water garden at new Detroit riverfront park

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and Huron-Clinton Metroparks announced Tuesday the new name for the new Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park feature.

The park’s water feature, named the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Water Garden, is one of four major attractions within the 22-acre park, which is scheduled to open along the West Riverfront in 2024.

This is the first Huron Clinton Metropark location within Detroit, with winding promenades, quiet seating, educational signs, and outdoor classrooms for programming.

“Metroparks form a greenbelt of vibrant, active and natural spaces around the Detroit metropolitan area, but for decades there have been gaps in Metropark presence within the city of Detroit. We are moving toward closing that gap and establishing a physical presence that residents can engage with on a daily basis. We are grateful for this strong partnership that has helped make this happen.”

Authorities broke ground on the park in May 2022 and named it after the late Ralph C. Wilson Jr., an entrepreneur, veteran and philanthropist from Detroit.

The park’s other major attractions include the William Davidson Sports House with its two prescribed basketball courts, the Delta Dental Play Garden with animal structures, and the DTE Foundation lawn used for special events and programming. I have.
