CHARLESTON, West Virginia (WOWK) — A beloved former Putnam County gardener and Capitol Market seller has died, Grit’s Midway Greenhouse said Tuesday.
James (Jim) Grit, 80, of Lake Mary, Fla., died Sunday of lung cancer, according to an obituary.
Grit graduated from Buffalo High School in West Virginia, according to his obituary. He is a passionate entrepreneur, grower and was also the salesman for his greenhouse in Putnam County, his family-owned Grits He Midway.
Charleston’s Capitol Market says Grit has helped transform its farmers market into a place of value to the community.
“We are saddened to share the news of the passing of our friend and farmer, Jim Grit. Jim is committed to helping Capitol Market become a special place within our community. My heart goes out to Penny and the rest of the Glitz Midway crew.
According to Gritt’s obituary, he also liked woodworking, gardening and spending time with his wife, family and friends.
He has a wife, four children, six grandchildren and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 12:00 pm at the Baldwin Fairchild Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sanford, Florida.
