More than $500,000 in jewelry was stolen from a car last week after the driver exited Eastbound Highway 22 and stopped at a red light in Garden Grove, officials said.
On January 12, a silver van containing three male suspects stopped directly in front of the victim’s vehicle and approached it. The suspect smashed the victim’s rear window and stole a backseat bag containing jewelry worth approximately $560,000.They then fled the scene in their vehicle, according to Garden Grove Police.
Police responded to the area after the victim chased and crashed into the suspect’s vehicle at the intersection of Magnolia and Trask streets. The suspect fled the scene.
A similar robbery occurred in November, when several men stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the victim’s vehicle after he stopped at a red light. The suspect immediately fled in a minivan.
Both robberies appear to be targeted incidents, according to Garden Grove Police Sergeant Nick Jensen.
