Learn to become a better gardener through U of I extension online courses starting Jan. 31 – Shaw Local

Become a better gardener and succeed in growing plants indoors and outdoors. Learn the best of his home garden practices from a gardening educator at the University of Illinois Extension in the Four Seasons Gardening webinar series starting Tuesday, January 31st.

Online sessions are free to attend on selected Tuesdays from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Registration required. Extended Horticulture Educators Ryan Pankau, Andrew Holsinger, and Nancy Kreith lead this series. For more information on the series, register for individual events at go.illinois.edu/FourSeasons.

  • Shade Tree Pruning, Tuesday, January 31: Proper pruning ensures long-lived woody plants are healthy and structurally sound. We demystify shade tree pruning, revealing basic pruning cuts, pruning young trees, and how to care for and prune mature trees.
  • Indoor Plant Success, Tuesday, February 28: Learn how to choose the right plants for your indoor space and create a healthy houseplant environment. This session will discuss cultural requirements, maintenance practices, and important decorative aspects of interior plant growth.
  • Home Composting Basics, Tuesday, March 7: Discover the fascinating details of the decomposition process and learn how to turn waste into valuable organic matter by creating a compost pile at home.
