Man Hit Officer With Car While Fleeing: Nassau Police


GARDEN CITY PARK, N.Y. — A Queens man was arrested last week after he said he hit a police officer with his car while he was trying to flee.

According to police, at 8:12 a.m. on December 30, officers responded to a call to the disturbance on the Jericho Turnpike and Sixth Avenue. When officers arrived, police said they found Aasif Rasul, his 22-year-old in Queens, sitting in his Liberty 2007 Jeep. When officers approached the car on foot, police say Rasul accelerated and hit one of the officers before he fled.

Police searched the area and found Rasul on Stewart Avenue and Lincoln Street, 1.5 miles away. .

The two police officers and Rasul were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

After his arrest, police said an investigation found Rasul had an argument with a 25-year-old woman in her car that stopped her from leaving. I was able to get out of his car without hesitation.

Rasul has been charged with first and second degree assault, second degree wrongful imprisonment, third degree wrongful police escape, and multiple traffic offenses. He was indicted at Hempstead’s 1st District Court on 31 December.
