Multiple Dangerous Drivers Arrested: Garden City Police


GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incident in the week ending December 13th.

December 7

  • In an investigation into a two-vehicle accident on 1st Street, Rockaway Avenue, a 58-year-old man was charged with leaving the scene without exchanging information.
  • The 10th Avenue driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and a changed license plate.

  • A 52-year-old man was arrested for DUI and reckless driving on Nassau Boulevard and Somerset Avenue.
  • Firefighters and police responded to the apartment building for those stranded in the elevator.
  • The Stewart Avenue driver was charged with license suspension and distracted driving (mobile phone).
  • A check posted at the Garden City Post Office was reportedly stolen, altered, and cashed for more than $4,800.
  • A person claiming to be a financial institution reported that the victim’s account had been hijacked. At the caller’s request, the victim provided personal information that was later used to fraudulently withdraw her $10,000 from the victim’s account.
  • Firefighters and police set off fire alarms in the home and identified the cause as burnt food.
  • A 30-year-old woman has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident on Cherry Valley Avenue on December 5.

December 9

  • A 42-year-old man was arrested for driving with a suspended license due to a previous DWI arrest, two additional license suspensions, smoking cannabis while driving, and speeding.
  • A 41-year-old woman was arrested at the Old Country Road office for engaging in an unauthorized profession (unlicensed masseuse) and prostitution.
  • A company has been charged with driving a truck with unsecured cargo and 14,000 pounds of overweight on Washington Avenue.
  • A power outage was reported in the 1st Street area.
  • Police provided details regarding traffic and safety at the Western Tree Lighting.
  • The truck driver was charged with driving without a seatbelt on his suspended license.

December 10th

  • Officers investigated reports of suspicious activity at two Ash Street properties. No loss or damage has been reported at this time. Investigation is ongoing.
  • A policeman puts out a robbery alarm at Homestead School. The building was checked and seemed safe. It was determined that the alarm was triggered when a PSEG contractor caused a power outage to the building while working on a local power line.
  • A Rockaway Avenue driver has been charged with driving without a license and running a red light.
  • A Stewart Avenue driver was charged with driving in violation of license restrictions and not properly placing a child under the age of four in a child seat.

December 11th

  • Officers arrested a 41-year-old driver on Clinton Road for DUI, speeding and using unsafe lanes.
  • Firefighters and police responded to Wetherill Road, where power lines were damaged by fallen tree branches. The area was protected until the arrival of the PSEG.
  • The vehicle left the scene after reportedly colliding with another vehicle on Rockaway Avenue on 1st Avenue.

December 12th

  • Officers investigated reports that a pickup truck left the scene after backing up and damaging an empty vehicle in Parking Lot 8.
  • Personal identities were stolen and used to open unauthorized mobile phone accounts.
  • Officers responded to a broken railroad gate at a railroad crossing at Nassau Boulevard station.
  • Firefighters and police responded to residential fire alarms and determined what caused the overheating.
  • A New Hyde Park Road driver has been charged with driving without a license, speeding in a school zone, and running a red light.
  • The Stewart Avenue driver was charged with a license suspension and speeding.
  • Someone intercepted a check in the mail, altered it, and cashed it.

December 13th

  • A debit card accidentally misplaced in an ATM machine on Franklin Avenue was stolen and used to make fraudulent purchases.
  • Officers investigated reports of a broken water main on Franklin Avenue and determined it was a sewage backup. We notified the water department and took action.
  • Firefighters and police called out to the apartment for a fire alarm and determined that overcooked food was the culprit.
  • A New Hyde Park Road driver has been charged with a suspended license and speeding in a school zone.
  • The vehicle left the scene after being hit and damaged by another vehicle on Meadow Street.
