Officer Thrown From Car As Shoplifters’ Getaway Driver Flees East Garden City Mall, Police Say

Three women have been charged with allegedly attempting to steal from a Long Island shopping mall after being stopped by police, officials said.

Nassau County Police received a call about two women stealing merchandise from a Macy’s store in East Garden City on the Roosevelt Field Mall around 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, according to Nassau County Police.

When police arrived, Samantha Signorelli, 32, of Freeport and Michele Brown, 25, of Baldwin, were immediately arrested.

A third suspect, Amber Johnson, 36, of Belmore, was found by officers waiting for two other women in a 2019 Volkswagen, police said.

Police said Johnson deliberately hit him when a detective tried to stop her car. After she continued driving with the officer on the hood, she allegedly crashed into a parked car and threw the officer out of the vehicle.

Police said Johnson then fled the scene but was soon arrested. She is currently facing multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and eviction from the crime scene.

Police said Signorelli had been charged with grand theft and had a pending warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Brown was charged with petty theft and also had pending warrants for grand theft, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and petty theft.

All three suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead First District Court on Monday, December 19.

Nassau County Police did not report any injuries to the officers involved.
