Pot-bellied pigs, not feral hogs spotted near Garden Plain


Wichita, Kansas (KWCH) – Last week, according to video and photos shared by the Garden Plain Police Department, Concern over possible wild pigs in western Sedgwick County areaWildlife officials say an investigation revealed that the sighting was not a wild pig, but a pot-bellied pig.

Potbellied hogs are very different from wild hogs, which can cause a lot of destruction. No feral pigs have been identified in the Garden Plains area, according to the Wildlife Authority, and officials are working to determine if there are any necessary measures to address the presence of pot-bellied pigs. .

Kansas State University Extension Wildlife Specialist Drew Ricketts said pot-bellied pigs are allowed to roam near garden plains.

“According to state law, these are technically considered wild pigs, but they are very different from wild pigs, which cause tremendous destruction to agriculture and ecosystems,” he said.
