The Van Horne Garden Club met at the Keystone Care Center on December 1st to entertain and decorate for the holiday season. The seven members in attendance were Paula Fraser, Leslie Baumhovener, Brenda Huckvers, Janet Knaak, Sheri Garrott, Cindy Schoenfelder and Carla Albertsen.
The meeting was an annual garden therapy event shared by the club by decorating the residents’ Christmas trees with ornaments made at the fall meeting. Paula Frazier and Leslie Baumhoefener provided material and led the autumn workshops. This year, the members made decorations with the theme of a snowman made of wood. I also made a round wooden ornament with hand-painted Christmas scenery. To decorate the 22 dining room tables, members created larger wooden snowman centerpieces, each uniquely decorated for the Christmas season.
Members spent the afternoon playing bingo and serving holiday desserts to residents and guests. Garden Club members and Keystone Care Center residents enjoyed this special seasonal event.
As a community service project, members decorated planters on Main Street in Van Horn for the holidays. They also designed two winter pots using real evergreen branches, pine cones, birch branches, and holiday decorations. These were donated for a Christmas community event at Van Horn. These winter pots and several Christmas centerpieces, also designed by members of the club, were handed out as door prizes.
